Mainstream music vanishes from memory much faster than films do

Popular songs usually exit the mainstream within a decade. This cultural amnesia is unique to music, with film consumption fading at a slower, linear rate. The abundance of music, the repetitive nature of music consumption, and context-dependent preferences may explain why. However, some rap and rock artists/songs, like Earth, Wind, & Fire's 'September' and Bruno Mars' 'Uptown Funk,' defy this trend and endure.
